Dayne Florence
Lighting and Visual Direction

Dayne Florence is a lighting designer working primarily in performance, dance, and live art. Based in Basel, Switzerland, he works internationally across creation-based and repertory contexts.
Before moving into lighting design, he spent over a decade as a professional dancer. This experience informs a way of working that reads performance from the inside — shaping visual decisions through an understanding of movement, timing, and how attention is directed on stage.
His practice is driven by a distinct visual sensibility. Lighting is developed as part of the overall composition of a work, shaping atmosphere, rhythm, and focus with clear intention, while remaining responsive to the realities of production. Visual decisions are made to hold both form and experience in balance.
Working closely with choreographers and directors, Dayne supports the development of ideas and helps carry them through to a coherent realisation within real production conditions. His process is organised and deliberate, while valuing openness, precision, and sustained attention to the work as it unfolds.
Across projects, he is often involved in clarifying direction and coherence beyond lighting alone — helping align visual, spatial, and temporal elements so the work reads with intention.
